Riding Through Redlands

Posted by on April 8, 2013

This past weekend the sidewalks near our home were lined with barricades as bike riders of all ages and abilities zipped by on a downtown sprint course. The Redlands Bike Classic has been attracting professional riders since 1985. Many go on to compete in the Tour de France. According to the announcer, the professionals reached speeds topping 35 mph on the flat surface streets around our neighborhood.

Downtown was packed with spectators as businesses set up booths selling everything from iced lemonade to bank accounts on the rooftop of the local parking garage. The three-day event included a long-form professional race down from Big Bear, amateurs heats and a 90-minute time trial through a downtown sprint course.

Just one more fun thing to do around here!
