Have ya noticed I’ve been missing from the blog lately? There’s good reason. Moving stinks! In chronological order, here are the contents of our big pot of crazy.
1. In February we loaded up the moving truck and left Redlands. That little city of orange groves, tree-lined streets and incredible people will always hold a special place in my heart. It was very hard to leave and I still miss it dearly.
2. So began life on the road. David jetted off to Oakland for a month then Miami for another month. In the meantime, I moved in with my sister and raised a baby in Reno with some newly-developed RIDICULOUS sleeping habits. Pretty sure I got 45 minute stints through March and April, but it’s really a blur so I couldn’t say for sure. 😉 This is also the time when my body decided to stop making milk for my little. I tried literally everything and it didn’t work. Stress does some incredible things to the body. There is no greater feeling of helplessness than listening to your child scream and writhe because your body can’t do something it was made to do. Don’t judge too quickly when you see the formula come out. That woman might be fighting a pretty stressful battle.
3. Somewhere in there I packed up our little Honda coupe to the brim and drove eight hours across Nevada over to Heber City, UT. I am so thankful that my mother in law flew out to help me make the trip!
4. The next months were spent organizing our move to Pocatello and looking for housing. We Spent much of this time trying to find and buy our first home. This is still a pretty stressful (and somewhat divisive) topic, so I will just say that many factors including limited time and private student loan debt combined against us and we were not able to buy.
5. With our backup housing plan in place and less than two weeks until David’s residency began, we then travelled to Dallas, Texas to visit Matt, Jamie and meet their new baby girl!
6. From Dallas we flew back to Heber City and then out again to New York for David’s Medical School graduation. David flew back a day early from that adventure for his first day as a Family Medicine Doctor. I followed across the country with baby in tow the next day and we have been unpacking and settling in ever since.
We have had so many adventures over the past months that I never want to forget. Here’s to another exciting ride!
